A KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) man has been found dead accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend because she intended to leave him after receiving a payment from the Road Accident Fund (RAF). The body of that person was found on Wednesday morning, which has raised more questions in the ongoing investigation.
According to KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the body of the 25-year-old suspect was found hanging from a tree in the Mlangeni area of Umzinto, where the crime was committed.
Details of murder incident
Colonel Netshiunda said police received reports of a murder on a gravel road in Mlangeni, Umzinto. Upon arrival, officers found the body of a 25-year-old woman, whose name has not been released. The victim was lying in the middle of the road with multiple stab wounds, and a broken knife was located near her body.
It is believed that the suspect, identified as Lawrence, picked up his girlfriend from her home and a domestic dispute between the two quickly escalated into a violent attack. Police suspect that he was stabbed to death due to a dispute.
Consequences and police response
The suspect’s vehicle was found abandoned down the road from where the woman’s body was found. Blood stains were found on the front passenger seat, indicating that the murder had occurred inside the vehicle. Following this discovery, the police launched an intensive search operation.
The search culminated with the discovery of Lawrence’s body in a nearby area, where it is believed he took his own life. Authorities suspect suicide, but the investigation is ongoing.
